When he returned, he moved out of our home and into an independent living place. We kept Louie. We had her for the remaining part of her life. She lived to about fifteen years before we had to put her to sleep.

Her hind legs finally failed and it was time to end her suffering. In her final years she was on about half a dozen pills for her various ills and weaknesses. I would put the pills into a piece of cheese or a hot dog or just wrap them in bread with peanut butter and toss them to her.

At first she was pretty good at catching them in mid-air, but -- toward the end -- I would just put them in her bowl.

That may be what I miss most. Early in the morning, she would push her cold nose under the covers to wake me up for breakfast. I'd go down and fix her pills and some food, and then she'd lay at my feet while I typically got onto the computer to write another note for my blog or study my school lessons.

I knew I'd miss her when she was finally gone, but I didn't know how much. Love you Louie.Mickey Cheathamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12707044884318587793noreply@blogger.com
